What Benefits Are Available?
Social Security disability benefits are also sometimes referred to as SSD, Social Security disability insurance (SSDI), retirement, survivors and disability insurance (RSDI), disability insurance benefits (DIB), and Title II disability benefits. You may be eligible for one or more of the following classifications of Social Security disability benefits:
Disability Insurance Benefits
Generally if a person is unable to work full time due to a mental or physical condition which has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months, and enough work has been performed in the ten years just prior to the onset of disability, eligibility has been satisfied.
Disabled Widow or Widower Benefits
Generally if a widow or widower or surviving divorced spouse between the ages of 50 to 60 has a physical or mental condition, which stops them from working full time, they may be eligible for these benefits (there are other requirements – so feel free to call for a free consultation).
Childhood Disability Benefits
Also known as DAC benefits, these benefits are generally available to the child of a worker (who has paid into the system) who is 18 years old or older if the physical or mental condition began before the age of 22 and has stopped them from working full time (again, there are other requirements that must be met – feel free to call for a free consultation).
Special Rules for Blindness

The federal government created Social Security disability as program to protect workers and their spouses in case the worker becomes disabled. The worker's children are also protected as they grow into adulthood, once the worker is disabled, deceased or reaches Social Security retirement age.
